Shoe Review: Head Sprint Pro 4.0 SF Tennis Shoe

Head Sprint Pro 4.0 SF Tennis Shoes Review

As a tennis player who’s been lacing up for club matches and training sessions across Dubai’s hard courts, I was keen to put the Head Sprint Pro 4.0 SF tennis shoes through their paces. Known for their lightweight design and cutting-edge SuperFabric® material, these shoes promise speed, durability, and comfort for aggressive players. After a month of testing, here’s my detailed take on whether they’re worth the hype.

First Impressions

Right out of the box, the Sprint Pro 4.0 SF looks the business. The sleek black and white design, with subtle Head branding on the sides, feels modern and understated – perfect for players who want performance without flash.

Weighing around 340 grams (size UK 9), they’re noticeably light, and the low-to-the-ground profile hints at agility. The SuperFabric® upper, a high-tech material originally used in military applications, gives the shoes a tough yet flexible feel, while the breathable woven TPU mesh adds a touch of ventilation.

Slipping them on, the sock-like fit from the Sock Support System was immediately snug, almost glove-like. The OrthoLite insole felt cushioned but not overly plush, and the Delta Strap technology – with bands on both sides of the upper – promised a locked-in feel. However, the toe box felt a tad snug compared to my usual Asics, so I was curious to see how they’d break in.

On the Court

I tested the Sprint Pro 4.0 SF over several sessions, including hard court rallies and clay court sliding at Regent’s Park. Here’s how they performed across key areas:

Fit and Comfort

The initial snugness in the toe box required a short break-in period of about two sessions. By the third outing, the SuperFabric® upper had moulded nicely to my feet, offering a supportive yet flexible fit.

The Sock Support System hugged my midfoot brilliantly, and the heel stabilizer prevented any slippage, even during lateral sprints. For players with wider feet, these might feel restrictive unless you opt for the wide version, which Head offers.

Comfort-wise, the triple-density EVA midsole provided just enough cushioning without feeling bulky. Compared to the Head Revolt Pro 4.0, which prioritises plushness, the Sprint Pro 4.0 SF leans towards a responsive, court-connected feel.

The OrthoLite insole added a touch of softness, and the cooling system under the arch kept my feet reasonably ventilated, though not as breezy as mesh-heavy shoes like the Sprint Pro 3.5. After two-hour matches, my feet felt fresh, with no hotspots or cramping – a big win for a lightweight shoe.

Speed and Movement

These shoes are built for speed, and they deliver. The low-to-the-ground profile and minimal heel-to-toe drop made quick stops and starts feel effortless.

On hard courts, I could push off confidently for serves and slide into defensive positions without losing balance. The Delta Strap technology kept my foot secure during aggressive lateral cuts, and the 3D anti-torsion shank in the midfoot ensured stability that belied the shoe’s light weight.

Durability

The SuperFabric® material is a standout. After dragging my toes on hard courts and sliding on clay, the upper showed barely any scuff marks – a stark contrast to some mesh-based shoes that wear out quickly. The outsole held up well too, with the high-wear zones designed for hardcourt punishment still looking robust.

For aggressive movers who burn through shoes, the Sprint Pro 4.0 SF seems like a solid investment, though I’d need a few more months to confirm its long-term durability.

Traction

The Hybrasion+ outsole offered a near-perfect balance of grip and slip. I could plant my feet firmly for serves and volleys, while still sliding smoothly into wide forehands.

Who’s It For?

The Head Sprint Pro 4.0 SF is tailored for competitive players who prioritise speed and agility. If you’re an attacking player who loves darting around the court, making sharp cuts, and sliding into shots, these shoes are spot-on.

Advanced players will appreciate the balance of lightweight performance and stability, while intermediates with good footwork could also step up their game. However, beginners or players with wider feet might find the fit too snug, and those seeking maximum cushioning may prefer the Head Revolt Pro line.

Final Verdict

The Head Sprint Pro 4.0 SF is a cracking choice for players who want to zip around the court without sacrificing stability or durability. The SuperFabric® upper and upgraded mesh make it a tough yet lightweight option, while the low-profile design and responsive midsole deliver a connected, speedy feel. It’s not perfect – the snug fit and moderate cushioning won’t suit everyone – but for aggressive, fast-moving players, it’s hard to beat. After a month of testing, these have earned a spot as my go-to match-day shoes.
